One of the faithful manufacturers of Hans J. Wegner’s furniture is the Getama factory in northern Jutland. The furniture architect and the factory started their collaboration in 1949, and over the years a wide range of models came up, some of which were long-lived, while others were only briefly in production.
Getama’s extensive back catalog of Wegner furniture was one of the reasons why the British department store John Lewis contacted the company prior to the 100th anniversary of Wegner’s birth in 2014. John Lewis wanted to honor the internationally known Danish furniture champion with a special re-launch project, and therefore all the furniture sketches that Wegner had designed for Getama, were carefully reviewed.
The choice fell on a slightly forgotten furniture collection from 1970, which includes dining chair GE525 – also called The U Chair – and the associated table The U Dining Table, which has the model number GE526.
The chair provides comfortable support for the arms and elbows, but it can still be pulled close to the round table. The chair has a wooden frame – oak or black stained beech – and a seat that can be upholstered in leather or fabric. The table has a frame in the same wood types and has a diameter of 120 cm.
