Vita sofa: Organic modernism in the living room

In 1952, the Danish designer couple Nanna and Jørgen Ditzel designed the Vita sofa, which was unveiled at a furniture exhibition in Copenhagen. Back then, the sofa caused great attention, thanks to both its rounded organic shape and to the structure of the rounded shell floating on a visible solid oak frame. Even today, the Vita sofa offers both a visual treat and a pleasant, embracing seating comfort.

The sofa belongs to the “Organic Modernism” style trend, for which furniture designer Finn Juhl was a Danish pioneer. He was a close friend of the Ditzel couple, and thus he has undoubtedly been a source of inspiration for Vita.

For some time, design furniture manufacturer Getama has worked with Nanna and Jørgen Ditzel’s daughter, Dennie Ditzel, and skilled furniture makers to reconstruct the Vita sofa. The project has now succeeded, and the sofa will be out in stores by September.
