In 2015, it is 75 years ago since furniture designer Finn Juhl created his advanced and iconic armchair The Pelican, originally designed for his own home. It is wrong to say that the chair was popular in those days, where its distinctive shape was criticized and mocked, and during the following 60 years the Pelican became almost forgotten.
In 2000, the Pelican, however, was relaunched by the furniture company Onecollection, who saw a great potential in its organic form and high seating comfort. The chair is in no way indifferent, and one is forced to take a position on it – whether you think it is ugly or beautiful, provocative or visionary. In any case, during the last 15 years it has become one of the most popular pieces of furniture in Onecollection’s product range.
On the occasion of the 75th anniversary, the Pelican has been launched in a special version named Artwork Edition, where it has been upholstered with a special fabric, based on the artwork “Macbeth” by world-renowned Danish artist Asger Jorn. Asger Jorn and Finn Juhl were contemporaries, and they were both innovative and revolutionary in their respective fields. Therefore, there is a special point in bringing the two pioneers together. The fabric is developed in collaboration with design company Domicileculture.
The Artwork Edition of the Pelican chair will carry a special anniversary label.
