Oxford: A classic recreated

fritzhansen_oxford

Back in 1965, the famous Danish architect and designer Arne Jacobsen designed a special chair for his building project St Catherine’s College at Oxford University, in order to make the professors sit comfortably. The chair, which was characterized by its extended high back, was named Oxford Chair and soon became synonymous with status and prestige, power and authority.

Now, Fritz Hansen has created a renewed version of the classic Oxford chair, adapted to most office environments and home offices and suitable for modern ways of working. The new look makes the  Oxford chair appear differently as an integrated form, in contrast to the version with the traditional chrome frame, which is perceived more as a shell on a base.

The new edition is available in two versions: Classic and Premium. The Premium version has a thicker layer of foam, making it very comfortable, and is upholstered with a new textile that comes in several different colors. It is available in two heights and with a base with or without wheels. All Premium-chairs have armrests.

The Classic version is available in three heights and comes with or without armrests. The base is available with or without wheels.
