In 2014, two of the most renowned Danish furniture designers – Hans J. Wegner and Børge Mogensen – would both have turned 100 years. The Danish postal service – Post Danmark – has marked the anniversaries by issuing two new stamps.

One has a value of DKK 6.50 and depicts Wegner’s “Three-legged shell chair”, while the other with a value of DKK 16.00 represents Mogensen’s “The Spanish Chair”. Both stamps feature the designer’s portrait in the background.

“The two pieces of classic furniture have provided us with an exciting opportunity to combine postage stamp design with furniture design, also paying tribute to some of Denmark’s greatest designers of the 20th century,” explains Martin Pingel, design director at Post Danmark Stamps. “That is exactly what stamps also can do: Remind us about our history and highlight those individuals who have the talents and skills that give us a richer life,” Pingel adds.
