Old upholstery knowledge turns into a new cushion

Usually, Danish design furniture manufacturers keep their professional know-how for themselves. This also applies to Fredericia Furniture, who through more than 100 years has accumulated a unique knowledge of the production of solid upholstered furniture by, inter alia, furniture designer Børge Mogensen.

But no rule without exception: Fredericia Furniture has given designer Johannes Torpe and his team access to its joinery workshop, its upholstery workshop and its drawing archives, which, among other things, contain Børge Mogensen’s accurate descriptions of the techniques and methods – in particular seams and joints – which he used when creating his furniture classics.

Johannes Torpe Studios used this knowledge to design a new cushion, which has been named Double Stitch. The cushion is made of the same natural materials – wool, vegetable tanned leather and duck feathers – which Fredericia Furniture uses for its sofas and armchairs.

The double stitching on the cushion’s two surfaces is a detail that recurs in many Fredericia furniture items. This contributes both to enhance the durability and to create an additional visual finesse.

The Double Stitch cushion is intended to make it even more comfortable to sit in your sofa or armchair. It is pleasant to the touch and provides a comfortable support, if you want to rest your head on it.

The Double Stitch cushion measures 50 x 50 cm and is available in four different color combinations.
