In spring 2014, five major Danish brand manufacturers of design furniture and lamps – Fritz Hansen, Louis Poulsen Lighting, Carl Hansen & Son, Fredericia Furniture and Erik Jørgensen – won a lawsuit against the British-based company Interior Addict, which via the internet sells counterfeits of the five companies’ products to Danish consumers. According to Danish business newspaper Børsen, Interior Addict has not complied with the judgment, but continues to offer copy products at prices that are up to 10 times lower than the prices of original products.
This has now irritated the five Danish companies so much that they have decided to sue Interior Addict’s internet supplier for the purpose of blocking Danish customers’ access to the company’s website. It is the first time that such a case is taken to a Danish court, and it has therefore great fundamental importance. In the event that the Danish companies win the case, it is expected that other ISPs will follow the judgment and turn off Danish customers’ access to other UK copy furniture websites.
