In 1930 the furniture architect Kaare Klint designed a sofa for the Danish Prime Minister’s office.
This couch-sofa is characterized by the high sides and the special crossbars beneath the seats.
Kaare Klint divided the construction into three sections, each with a crossbar, which serves both an aesthetic and a functional purpose.
This design makes room for the legs of the person sitting on the couch – as well as making it easier to get up from the sofa.
The couch has a height and a volume which, together with the high sides, makes it comfortable and easily accessible.
This couch adds another piece to the complete picture of Danish designs Golden Age and contributes to Carl Hansen & Son’s collection of design classics from the 1930s and 1940s. Throughout the years, we have focused on gathering designs created by the best furniture architects throughout the ages – with emphasis on designs from the 1950s and 1960s. With Kaare Klints sofa, we will take a big step closer to presenting the whole story of Danish Modern.
