Arne Jacobsen’s own favorite

sika_charlottenborg

This charismatic armchair was designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1936 and first shown at the Copenhagen art gallery Charlottenborg’s spring exhibition in 1937. Originally named chair AJ 237 and was part of a series of original wicker chairs. It is now again put on the market of wicker furniture specialist Sika-Design, where it has been given the product name AJ25 as a member of the classic Icons collection.

The curved forms, which later became very characteristic of Arne Jacobsen’s many famous chair designs, can already be detected in this very early piece of furniture. The armchair has a quite unconventional form, where the elegant curved back of solid rattan becomes one with the armrests, both integrated beautifully in the bottom of the chair.

In addition to the rattan frame, the chair is fitted with an upholstered seat that comes in a variety of durable fabric types. The elegant and comfortable chair is a beautiful contribution to any modern sofa.

In fact, the Charlottenborg chair is said to be Arne Jacobsen’s favorite armchair in his summer residence.
