An embrace in the dining room

Together, the Danish design furniture manufacturer Carl Hansen & Son and the Austrian design trio EOOS have created a new interpretation of a classic type of furniture, namely the dining room chair.

The result is the Embrace Chair, which – due to its powerful sculptural expression – is well suited to stand freely in the room. It is intended for use as a dining room chair, but will also work fine, for example in meeting rooms, waiting rooms or hotel lobbies.

Through the design process, it has been EOOS’ endeavor to create a design that at the same time is tight and relaxed. The structure of the wood is evident in the construction and is visible from all angles, making the chair legs not only accessories to an upholstered seat. The frame is made of solid oak or walnut, and the back is assembled from three pieces of wood, using traditional finger joints.

The upholstery is created as a soft pillow, folded in three dimensions, thus constituting the seat, the back and the armrests in a coherent unity, which seems to float inside the frame. A special visual detail is the edge bands on the upholstery, which are available in black, white, brown, natural or blue. They make it possible to create a powerful contrast to the many different options for upholstery fabric or leather.

The Embrace Chair will be out at dealers in November 2015.
