In 1955, the young Danish furniture designer Poul Kjaerholm created a series of tables for the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Poul Kjærholm himself had recently joined as a teacher at the Academy and was commissioned to design tables respectively for teachers and students. The result was a Professor Table in Oregon pine with black steel frame and a Student Table in black stained oak with gray lacquered steel frame. The two simple tables are fine, early representatives of the minimalist functionalism, which would later characterize Poul Kjærholm’s furniture design.
Now, furniture manufacturer Carl Hansen & Søn has taken the two tables – the Professor Table with model number PK52 and the Student Table with model number PK52A – into its collection. The applications of the tables are many. The tables are suitable both as a desk, a dining table or simply as a beautiful work table in a drawing room or an office. They will also fit into a hotel room and in other contexts, where the simple and modern plays a role.
Both tables are available with tabletop in veneer of Oregon pine or oak in oiled, varnished or black painted surface and with a black or gray painted steel frame: As accessories, a drawer module, is available in oiled, varnished or black painted oak.
The Professor Table measures 72 cm (height), 186.5 cm (length) and 85 cm (depth). The Student Table PK52A measures 72 cm (height), 141.5 cm (length) and 85 cm (depth).
The tables will be available in stores from October.
