50 years with Arne Jacobsen’s Lily

Arne Jacobsen designed the Lily chair in 1970 – the chair is the architect’s last furniture design.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the unique chair, Fritz Hansen is now introducing a version with walnut veneer and birch veneer linings as well as a classic chrome frame.

The chair has not previously been manufactured with outer layers of natural veneer, as it is extremely complicated to create the chair’s curved armrests, without the outer layer of veneer cracks.

The Lily was Arne Jacobsen’s last chair design and perhaps even his most artistic, as it imitates in its design language a lily with open petals. Jacobsen’s lifelong interest in botany and painting is obvious in this design.

Christian Andresen, Head of Design

The 50th-anniversary edition of the Lily is available with or without armrests – each chair is equipped with a special anniversary plate placed under the seat.

The walnut tree’s deep sound highlights Lily’s very demanding shape.
