100,000 cobras

The trio behind Cobra’s success: From left Hans Sandgren Jakobsen, Hans Thyge Raunkjær and Brand Manager Benny Larsen, Labofa.

If education chair Cobra had been a music album, it would have been awarded quintuple platinum. This is the statement by the chair manufacturer Labofa on the occasion that Cobra chair no. 100,000 left the factory in May 2015.

Cobra was created in 2009 by furniture designers Hans Sandgren Jakobsen and Hans Thyge Raunkjær, and is specifically designed for use in educational settings. As such, it has proved to hit the mark in both secondary and higher education, where there are high demands for seating comfort and not least durability. Cobra has been certified to meet the stringent European EN standard for school furniture.

The name Cobra comes from the chair’s distinctive silhouette reminiscent of a cobra’s raised head.

On the occasion of the achievement, Labofa has produced 10 platinum colored anniversary chairs. The chairs will be individually numbered and donated to some of the partners who have been instrumental in the chair’s success. Moreover, Cobra will be introduced in four brand new colors in addition to the existing black model.
