The Spanish Chair 60 years

The Spanish Chair celebrates it’s 60th anniversary.

The chair was designed by Børge Mogensen in 1958 and has been manufactured by Fredericia ever since.

It is a known and loved chair – iconic of appearance, function, smell and sound.

On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the iconic Spanish Chair – Fredericia launches a special edition in massive oak combined with elegant grain leather in Olive Green.

The colour is from Børge Mogensen’s archives and is one of his most beloved shades and one of the dominant colours of the time.

To celebrate this special anniversary, Fredericia invited Børge Mogensen’s grandson, the famous fashion photographer Rasmus Mogensen, to portray himself with the chair designed by his grandfather in 1958.

Børge Mogensen’s perfectionist occupation of a single holistic expression, the small details, the perfectly thought-out angles, etc., was a driver for him but also exhausted him. Just there I felt a special bond, perhaps a curse, to Børge. This deep need for absolute simplicity and an idea of creating the perfect.

The chair is only available from the 19th September to the 31st December 2018. On the 19th September 1958 the chair was launched at Cabinetmakers Autumn Exhibition.
