Robert Wengler was a leading figure in the wicker maker craft, and his company became a royal court supplier in 1914 when the Danish king Christian X made a substantial order.
After that, the company became known as the country’s best wicker maker workshop – and well-known designers visited to gain insight into the wicker and basket maker craft.
Among the many visitors to Wengler’s workshop were Danish architects and designers such as Arne Jacobsen, Viggo Boesen, Kay Bojesen and Nanna and Jørgen Ditzel.
They had many of their prototypes made in Wengler’s workshop in Copenhagen.
Today R. Wengler stands as one of the pioneers in rattan production.
He set the course, through solid craftsmanship and by challenging the material.
Above is the characteristic and well-known Wengler Chair designed by Robert Wengler back in 1902.
Sika-Design carries on this proud tradition that R. Wengler and his workshop started, as the world’s leading manufacturer of quality handmade rattan furniture.
