Since August, the biggest case of copy crime has been on in Sweden.
The Swedish company Designers Revolt is being accused of copying Danish designer furniture.
Eight Danish design companies are involved in the case, where the well-known products have been copied and then sold in the thousands.
Now the court has spoken; the owners of Designers Revolt must pay damages of SEK 27 million and has also been sentenced to eighteen months in prison.
The amount of money is divided among the eight companies, including Fritz Hansen and Carl Hansen.
It is the most rigorous judgment that has been rendered in Sweden.
The case shows that there can be a big financial reward by free riding on others’ hard accumulated good reputation.
